Northeast Monsoon To End On Deficit Note For Tamil Nadu

Northeast Monsoon continues to be subdued, especially over Tamil Nadu, despite back to back to weather systems developing in Bay of Bengal. The latest low pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal, which was earlier indicating of giving good rainfall has become insignificant in the sea only.
The system is now seen as a cyclonic circulation near South Sri Lanka coast. The system, so far, has given scattered rains over southern parts of Tamil Nadu, while moderate to heavy showers over Sri Lanka.
Moving westwards, this weakened system is likely to give light to moderate rains over south and central parts of coastal Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours.
With this, Chennai that was anticipating another spell of good rains, will now witness mainly dry weather with partly cloudy sky.
Now, we expect another cyclonic circulation developing over Southeast Bay of Bengal, however, it will be also not of much help. Weathermen predict the new system is likely to move in west southwest direction towards South Tamil Nadu.
Thus, rain activity will also be confined to the southern parts of state that may witness scattered rains on December 26 and 27.
Thereafter, rains are likely to take back seat and December may end of dry note. So, we can say that in spite of various weather systems and three cyclones during the Northeast Monsoon, Tamil will still have to settle for deficit rains this season.
