The Reserve Bank of India has mentioned that it has issued Rs 2260 Crores pieces of notes of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 to the banks during the period - November 10 to December 19.
The central government suddenly demonetized the 500 and 1000 rupee notes on 8th November to curb the black money. After this, it was mentioned that the void notes can be deposited in the banks and exchanged till 30th December. Only 8 days is left for the deadline. Reserve Bank has mentioned that nearly 14.5 lakhs Crores void notes were deposited in the banks.
Over the period from November 10, 2016 up to December 19, 2016, banks have reported that banknotes worth Rs 5, 92,613 crore have been issued to public either over the counter or through ATMs. During the same period Reserve Bank has issued Rs 2260 Crores pieces of notes to banks.
Of these 2040 Crores pieces belonged to small denominations of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100, while 22o Crores belonged to higher denominations of Rs 2000 and Rs 500.
