The deadline for depositing old notes gets over today (30th Dec)

After the announcement on 8th November declaring that the currency notes of the denominations Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000, it was stated that these notes can be exchanged at all banks and Post Offices.

Similarly, payment through these old notes were allowed for paying electricity bills, property tax, Drinking water tax, and mobile phone bill payments till 15th December.

The central government has announced that the public can deposit these note in the banks till 30th December. This deadline gets over today (Friday, 30th December).

It has also been already announced that those who could not meet this deadline can exchange their old notes by depositing them in the branches of the Reserve Bank of India till 31st March.

The central government has followed this up with another announcement that penalty and prison sentence will be given to those who continue to keep these old invalid notes even after 31st March.
