Petrol pumps defer decision to not accept card payments till January 13

All India Petroleum Dealers Association had announced yesterday that they will not accept credit and debit cards from tomorrow midnight.
 
Banks such as HDFC, Axis, ICICI and Punjab National banks had decided  to levy Merchant Discount Rate (MDR)  on petrol pump owners, making petrol pumps bear 1 per cent on all credit card transactions and between 0.25 per cent and 1 per cent on all debit card transactions from January 9.
 
At this juncture, in a big relief for commuters, Petrol pumps on Sunday night deferred their decision not to accept credit and debit cards for fuel purchase till January 13, Oil companies held meeting with the central ministry. Accepting the request by petroleum companies, the dealers deferred their decision not to accept credit and debit cards for fuel purchase till January 13.
