Garlic plants are grown in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in India. The garlic grown in these regions is sent to all the states in India. For the last 15 days, the harvest of garlic is going on. Due to this garlic arrival has increased in Salem. In view of this, the rates of garlic in Salem market have come down.

Wholesales traders at Pal Market Salem while speaking about said: The arrival of garlic was lesser during the last week of January. For the last few weeks, we were receiving between 50 and  60 tonnes of garlic. Retail dealers purchase the garlic from this market and sell in their shops. Since there is more inflow of garlic now, the prices have come down. Garlic which was sold for Rs 130 during the month of January is now been selling between Rs 70 and Rs 80. In the coming weeks, the inflow of garlic will be more. At that time the prices will come down by Rs 10. Customers who come to market purchase more garlic than before.
