As a move to promote digital transactions and cashless India, the government has requested all banks to make mobile banking facility available to all their customers by or before 31st March this year.

This is what we have asked for - enable mobile banking to all customers who have a mobile. A nationwide campaign is requested from banks until 31st March so as to ensure that every customer with mobile phone has access to mobile banking, brief Aruna Sundararajan, the Electronics and IT Secretary. She pointed this to be an effort by the government to promote digital payment system.

Mobile banking has not been a priority thus far. Hence, customers would not have requested for the service. However, they are now in need of it. This move is to make mobile banking available to all customers who want it, but unavailable to them still.

Customers who make use of UPI or BHIM app should be enabled for mobile banking, according to Sundararajan. She added that customers who make use of these apps indicate that they need mobile banking services and hence the banks are requested to enable the same.

The government is making an aggressive push for digital platforms, particularly post demonetization that was announced on 8th November.
