Due to drought conditions, the yield of tamarind this year has been rather low and consequently, the price of tamarind has gone up.
Krishnagiri District is the No, 1 district in tamarind harvest. However, as the Northeast Rainy monsoon season had failed utterly, the yield on tamarind growth is less this year. The farmers had brought 15 tons of tamarind to the Pochampalli Fair.
Last week, Kottai tamarind was sold at Rs. 22/- per kg and Dosai Tamarind was sold at Rs. 52/- per kg. In the gathering of yesterday’s fair, kottai tamarind was sold at Rs. 30/- per kg and Dosai Tamarind was sold at Rs. 70/-.
The tamarind growers are delighted about this development.
