On the auspicious onset of the month of Chaitra, The Raintree – Anna Salai is all set to celebrate Ugadi by offering the traditional `Ugadi Thali` at their south Indian restaurant - Madras on the 29th of March. To mark this New Year occasion, the restaurant will be offering Boorelu, Mamidikaya Pulihora, Dosakaya Pappu, Pakam Garelu, Ugadi Pachhadi, Bobbattu and other traditional delicacies which are commonly served during the festival.
Ugadi is celebrated to mark Kannada and Telugu New Year and is also considered one of the most auspicious days of the natives. This festival is mostly prevalent in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra regions, and is marked by religious zeal and social merriment. Special dishes are prepared on this day and the preparations made with raw mango go well with the festive occasion. Ugadi Pachhadi which is made of new jaggery, raw mango pieces, neem flowers, and new tamarind is a combination of six different tastes - sweet, sour, spicy or pungent, salty, astringent and bitter. Bobbattu or Bhakshalu is made of gram and jiggery fillings stuffed in flat roti-like bread. These dishes are synonymous with Ugadi.
Keeping in hue with the festivity, Madras restaurant will offer a sumptuous traditional thali which will consist of dishes like Boorelu, Mamidikaya Pulihora, Mamidikaya Pulusu, Dosakaya Pappu, Pakam Garelu, Paramannam, Bobbatu, Badam Halwa and many more luscious ones. The thali will have the signature dishes of Andhra and which will be served in a traditional manner, presenting the authentic native flavours at it`s best.
