It was recently that the government had mandated Aadhar numbers for filing Income Tax returns. There were orders to link the Aadhar with Permanent Account Number as well. The Aadhar may even become a necessity if one wants to buy a new SIM card. And now, there is going to be another entrant: air travel.
Recent reports state that the government had requested the Wipro to make a blueprint of Aadhar based biometric access. This is for accessing flyers at all Indian airports. The blueprint will probably get ready by next month.
For identification at airports and fly in domestic flights, passengers will have to use the thumb, whereas for flying in international flights, one needs passport, of course.
This concrete step resulted during a recent meeting involving airport operators and airlines with the aviation minister Jayant Sinha and secretary R N Choubey.
