Pre-Monsoon rains in Kerala, Karnataka, TN: No relief from hot weather

Peninsular India has been witnessing on and off pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers for the last few days. According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions remain favourable for these activities to continue over the region.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is seen marked over South Konkan and Goa region and a trough is extending from this system up to South Kerala. In wake of these systems, light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur over parts of Kerala during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Coastal Karnataka and Interior Tamil Nadu are likely to record light showers only. True to their nature, these pre-Monsoon showers will be short and sharp in nature and prolonged spell of rains are ruled out.

Moreover, these weather activities will occur during the afternoon or evening hours and thus, these will not have any impact over the temperatures. Presence of these systems will infuse moisture over the region, which when combined with high day temperatures lead to formation of convective clouds over the region. With this, we can expect rains of varying intensity, thundershowers or thunder storms.

Remaining parts of the region such as Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka will remain mainly dry, leading to extremely hot weather. In fact, isolated places may come under the ambit of heatwave like conditions as well. Day temperatures will continue to settle above 40°C.
