SBI card has announced that payments made through cheques would be charged henceforth. SBI card is an associated company of SBI. SBI card has more than 50 branches throughout the country.
SBI card has already announced that for every cheque payment made for amounts below Rs. 2000, a charge of Rs. 100 will be collected. In a recent survey, it was established that 92 percent of the customers prefer digital transactions (non-cheque).
Among the people who pay be cheques, which is 8 percent, 6 percent pay cheques for amounts of only above Rs. 2000.
So, only 2 percent of the customers pay by cheques below Rs. 2000. Only this 2 percent group has to bear the additional charge of Rs. 100. However, this rule will not be applicable for all SBI savings account holders.
It is expected that the stage has come when there will be a gradual increase for 100 percent digital transactions.
