The passengers booking flight tickets will now have to give their Aadhar card details from today (Thursday, 4th May).
Subsequently, the passengers will have to scan their hands (To check and confirm the fingerprints) at the entrance devices to the airport. Only if the fingerprint matches the Aadhar record, entry into the airport will be allowed.
This system will ensure illegal acts like a person traveling on someone’s passport, or escaping to another country are totally prevented.
This new system is currently implemented at the Hyderabad airport on a test-basis. This is system operates for private airline flights in Bengaluru airport.
The next test run is scheduled at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport.
A civil official from the central ministry of aviation explained that when Aadhar details are obtained, the particulars like the photo, fingerprints, etc. immediately get registered. So, when the passenger enters the gate, the original photograph will appear on the screen as given in the Aadhar cards. This will confirm whether the passenger is original. The fingerprints also will be confirmed while scanning the hand to compare it with the Aadhar card and allow entry only if they match.
This system will be gradually implemented in all the airports in the country.
