It is likely that India will receive above average monsoon showers, as in the past few weeks, the El Nino condition has got eased, says chief of the weather office.

The director general of the state-run Indian meteorological department said a lot of aspects have changed. According to a forecast conducted on 18th April, this year’s monsoon is at 96 percent of total 50-year average at 89 cm.

The monsoon brings close to 70 percent of rainfall which is essential for growing crops, rice, cane, corn, cotton, soybeans, etc, as more than half of the country’s farmland does not have enough irrigation facility.

About 96 percent of the assessment is based on climatological conditions till March. The conditions have turned favorable for improvement, he added.
