People need not worry about stupefying power cuts anymore as you can now receive advance notifications through SMS. You may check your cell phones and get to know about the power shutdowns at your neighborhoods.
TANGDCO has come up with a new service according to which the first batch of customers will be receiving messages. These are the ones near Anna Salai sub-station within TNEB headquarters campus.
The call the service as Minsara Nanban meaning friends of power. It became operational on Saturday. Customers located close to substation on the campus were then sent text messages, said a senior TANGEDCO official. An official statement about the service launch is expected today.
These text messages will include details about planned power cuts ahead by 1 day. About 1.65 crore customer numbers are with us. They fall under varied categories: domestic, light tension, high tension, commercial, industrial, etc. These customers will be getting SMS.
Usually, the power shutdown is imposed between 9 am and 2 pm one area after the other. This is performed to check distribution lines and service transformers and other equipment in use. The shutdown is kept very minimum this summer. Only the needed repairs are being done, officials say.
