The Reserve Bank of India has announced that the banks will not be responsible for the safety of things kept inside the lockers.

Under the RTI (Right To Information), advocate Kush Kalra had raised the question about the safety of the valuable items such as golden/diamond jewellery items kept inside the lockers provided by the public sector banks.

19 Public Sector banks, including the State Bank of India, responded with clear statements that in the case of theft or damage to the valuables kept inside the lockers, only the customers will be responsible.

Subsequently, advocate Kush Kalra has informed that this clarifies that the banks will not be responsible for the safety of the items kept in the lockers.
