Following the implementation of the GST, the price of the LPG cooking gas cylinder has gone up by Rs. 32.
Earlier, there was no VAT (Value Added Tax) or Sales Tax in Tamil Nadu. So the price of the LPG cooking gas cylinder was reasonably low.
After GST, the tax for the subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinders has gone up by 5%. So, the Oil Companies have increased the prices of the subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder.
In Chennai, the subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder, which was being sold at Rs. 434.15, is now costing Rs. 31.41 more. Thus, the revised price of the cylinder is Rs. 465.56.
Such high increase of price was last encountered in the year 2011. During that time, the cylinder price went up by Rs. 50. Now, after a gap of 6 years, the increase this year is Rs. 32.
