For all its economy class passengers, Air India has excluded non-vegetarian food menus on its domestic flights. At the same time, there is going to be non-vegetarian food items available on its international passengers in economy class.
In its note about the exclusion, Air India states that the move is intended to bring down food waste and improve food catering services. With a veg-only menu, we could avoid mix-ups. And there is increased demand for vegetarian foods, the airline specifies.
This is a conscious decision we have taken not to have non-vegetarian menu in the economy class of domestic flights. The move is intended to reduce waste, bring down the pricing and improve overall catering service quality, says a report on the same.
This news has come amidst reports stating that Air India has a burdened debt of Rs 52,000 crore. Beyond this, in the past few years, the airline is accumulating losses. To note, Tata Group that earlier owned Air India has shown interest in buying out the same yet again.
Starting from June month, there are several plans and ideas being made to pull the air carrier out of debt or loss. Cost-cutting measures are recommended to the top management of the airline. The idea of privatization is avoided though. And salads are to be cut out of the meal menu.
