IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) has proposed to operate special (pilgrimage) trains to Shirdi, Mantralaya, and Kasi.
IRCTC has been operating the special pilgrimage trains since 2005 to various religious centres and tourist spots. The special trains run by IRCTC include Bharath Darshan Religious Tour, LTC packages, and educational special trains for the benefit of the school and college students.
As a part of this, a special pilgrimage train will be run from Madurai on the 9th August to Shirdi via Chennai Central, The route is Madurai – Dindigul – Karur – Erode – Salem – Jolarpettai – Katpadi – Chennai Central – Shirdi – Pandaripuram – Mantralayam. The duration of the trip is 7 days and the fare per person is Rs. 5800. This fare includes the train ticket, vegetarian food, and lodging.
Another special pilgrimage train will start from Madurai on 18th August and will proceed to Kasi (Banaras or Varanasi) via Dindigul, Erode, Salem, and Chennai.
Arrangements have been made to have a Darshan of Lord Viswanath in Kasi, to pay the religious duties/penance to the departed elders in Gaya, to have a Darshan of the Goddess Manasa Devi at Hardwar, to visit the Qutab Minar and Raj Ghat in Delhi and a Darshan of the Lord Krishna Janma Bhoomi.
The duration of this trip is 12 days. The fare per person is Rs. 11340. This fare includes the train ticket, vegetarian food, and lodging.
