Over the last few months, the prices of the vegetables in Chennai Koyambedu vegetable market had a trend of falling especially because of the higher harvest yield and more quantity reaching the wholesale market.
In this situation, with the start of the auspicious Tamil calendar month of Aadi, the prices of the vegetables have gone up.
In fact, except for a few vegetables, the prices of most vegetables have gone up.
The General Secretary of the Koyambedu Vegetable Traders Association explained that 250 to 300 trucks carrying vegetables reach the Koyambedu vegetable market every day.
As the Tamil auspicious month of Aadi is in progress right now, most houses will prepare only vegetarian food. So, the demand for vegetables is up. Further, the number of trucks delivering vegetables has come down and the quantity is lesser. This has led to a price increase.
