BSNL has introduced a new facility to provide internet services without using modem just using the landline connection.

However, the landline telephone connections need to be upgraded for this purpose. Hence, the project of upgrading the quality of the landline connections to the requisite standard has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 23 Crores for the 2.32 Lakhs landline connections currently in use.

With this new service, the BSNL customers with landline connection get internet services without a modem. However, they need to use a telephone with the Internet Protocol facility, known as SIP handset.

Further, with this new phone, the facility to take the calls coming to the mobile phone can be taken on the landline connection and vice versa – the landline calls can be received and take from the mobile phone.

Audio-video calling and calls through video-conferencing can also be received.

A facility to form a group just as in the case of WhatsApp can also be done with this new phone connection. With the other family members and friends.

Also, as the prepaid services are available on the BSNL cell phone, this prepaid facility can be extended to the new smart internet landline phone.

There is no necessity to pay the monthly landline telephone bills as per the current practice. The customers can get some additional facilities as well.
