It has been announced that the banks will not function today due to the proposed strike by the bank employees. So, there are possibilities of all financial transactions coming to a standstill.
The proposed strike of the bank employees would be throughout the country. The Federation of 9 bank employees unions, including the All India Bank Employees Union, have called for the strike today (Tuesday, 22nd August).
So, there is a strong likelihood of all required financial transactions coming to standstill with the banks remaining closed today throughout Tamil Nadu.
Around 56000 bank employees and officers in the banks in Tamil Nadu are going on strike. So, all important activities such as depositing and withdrawal of money will not be possible.
It has been announced that ATMs will be functioning. It is estimated that this strike today may result in the foreign exchange, import, and export-related activities being totally affected.
The General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees Union, C. H. Venkatachalam informed that over 10 Lakh bank employees will participate in the proposed strike today. The Unions promised to drop the idea of strike provided the central government promised to drop implementation of the proposed central government economic reform policies. However, this was not accepted by the central government. So, the strike will be conducted as proposed.
