According to the department of telecom, carriers can make e-KYC based on Aadhar for the roaming subscribers of circle where they are present. This eliminates the need for them to visit their respective circle where the number was originally obtained in which case the telecoms should update records at the backend.

The existing set of rules will remain the same to telecos. With this, a large mass of customers who are on roaming and are present out of town can be benefited, as it is not mandatory for them to visit their own circle where they purchased the SIM card for completing the e-KYC based on Aadhar.

Several representations about the difficulties faced due to re-verification of mobile connections on roaming or in case of difference in residential address are received at the department, said department sources at the time of issuing relaxation on its notice rolled out on September 22.

According to DoT notification, it is compulsory for the carriers to update the subscriber records in their database at their home circle network together with details of point of sale for doing re-verification.

According to the Supreme Court’s direction rolled out earlier this year, it is mandatory for the carriers to re-verify their customer base that is of about 1.1 billion by linking mobile number with Aadhar.
