Chennai to remain dry as depression in Bay tracks far away

Chennai rains continue to be the hot topic among the people. Development of back to back weather systems in Bay of Bengal has kept Chennai vulnerable for rains, as it is one of the most favorable region for these systems.
Cyclone Ockhi had formed in Andaman Sea and travelled in southwest direction towards Sri Lanka and South Tamil Nadu. Though it was far from Chennai, peripherals of the system managed to give good rains over the city around November 30.
Now, another depression has emerged in Southeast Bay of Bengal, which is likely to get more marked and intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours. This system has once again raised anxiousness among people, whether it would give some flooding rains or not.
However, the depression is tracking far away from Tamil Nadu and has not been affecting the weather over North Tamil Nadu. In wake of this, weather over Chennai has been dry for the last six days.
Further, with depression moving in north-northwest direction towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts, we do not expect any changes in the weather over Chennai. According to weathermen, Chennai would continue with dry weather conditions for next one week. There might be one or two odd showers but it would be purely due to localized factors.
In absence of rains, warm and humid weather has already made a comeback over Chennai. Day temperatures might increase slightly and would settle around 30°C. Meanwhile, minimum temperature would be in the range of lower 20s to mid 20s.
Chennai floods in 2015 have instilled a fear among the people of Chennai. Every system forming in Southwest Bay of Bengal brings back the horror of massive floods two years back.
