Madurantakam is located in the district of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu and it is about the distance of 85 kms from Chennai is known to us.  This Maduranthakam is grabbing the attention of many now.

It is now said that Maduranthakam is now being considered for second airport and this airport would be present on the land of 1500 acres and it would be superb.

Earlier Sriperumbudur was considered as place to set up second airport but the plan did not materialize. It is now brought out that Airport Authority of India or AAI have decided to fasten the preliminary survey of Maduranthakam as well as Gummidipoondi for setting up of second airport.

Mr. Guruprasad Mohapatra chairman of AAI, asked the officials to hasten the study for location finalization. Committee to study the land at Maduranthakam in order to find its suitability has been set up by the civil aviation ministry.

The advantages of this piece of land that is available at the district of Kanchipuram are it is vast without any buildings plus it is close to highway that connects Chennai.

It is now revealed that many important parameters such as wind pattern, location, orientation of the runway plus presence of obstacles like hills etc would be considered by the AAI officials and by the Director General of Civil Aviation or DGCA.

Around land area of 2000 acres would be required to set up the second airport and this would be done by public sector airport operator or private sector under private-public joint association.  Since the state government did not earmark a land inside 31st December deadline, these two options are being studied by the authorities concerned and this was confirmed by a senior official.

This senior official also spoke about how Sriperumbudur area was identified as the second airport but clearing at the right time did not take place.
