Cheaper, faster and reliable communication between humans as well as between machines would be possible soon in the future. This would be possible because of research activities on the 5G technology. It is now said that India would be joining few countries in this regard and it would be superb.
It is important to note that the finance minister Mr Arun Jaitley on Thursday 1st February 2018 announced that 5G technology testing centre would be set up at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Madras or IITM and department of telecommunications would be playing a huge role of supporting this.
Enhancement of broadband cellular network would be possible with the new wireless technology because the speeds would be greater than the 3G and 4G network.
It is now said that construction of end to end test bed for 5G technology in many places by using high fibre optic network is proposed and this was later confirmed by Mr Bhaskar Ramamurthy who is IIT M director.
Both Internet of Things or IoT applications as well as machine to machine applications could be developed at this IITM in the future. One important piece of information is the development of 5G technology test bed is an initiative and it involves many researchers from IITs like IITM, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur plus researchers from Indian institute of Sciences Bangalore, CEWiT Chennai and SAMEER Chennai. He also spoke about how IIT M would be leading this team of researchers.
The IITM director said that the test bed would have latest indigenous equipment and products would operate using latest 5G technology. Testing on the basis of performances as well as by compliance would be done.
Mr Bhaskar Ramamurthy threw light on few things like millimetre wave communications, network security, network function virtualization etc. It is also brought out that 5G would play huge part in increasing the subscriber base.
