Sri Bhavani Amman temple of Periyapalayam

A village named Periapalayam about 40km north of Chennai has been attracting the attention of many people and devotes is known. It is important to note that in this village is present the popular Sri Bhavani Amman temple.
It is worthy to note that ‘Aadi’ month is special in this temple and in this month thousands of devotes come to this temple to have darshan of this Goddess Sri Bhavani Amman.
Situated on the banks of Arani river this temple is fantastic and this Goddess has got links to Lord Krishna.
It is said that Lord Krishna’s uncle King Kamsa kept his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudev in a prison. Their seven babies born in that prison were killed by this king. When their eighth baby or Lord Krishna was born Vasudeva exchanged this baby with another baby and provided safety for Lord Krishna in another place.
When King Kamsa tried to kill this eighth baby who was Goddess Bhavani Amman, she appeared before Kamsa and said Kamsa would be killed by a baby that is safe in another place.
It is interesting to note that in this temple the idol of Goddess Bhavani Amman has originated itself or Swambhu and covered with kavacham. People visiting this temple for the first time would be surprised to see another idol of Goddess Bhavani Amman in sitting posture with 4 hands behind this Swambhu idol. There is a five headed snake above the head of Goddess Bhavani Amman in this temple.
Devotees in this temple do many types of prathanas such as veppanselai prathana, adithandha prathana, thalisaradhu prathana etc.
This popular temple of Goddess Bhavani Amman is opened for the devotees from morning 5:30 AM to 12:30pm and from afternoon 2pm till 9pm. On Sundays this temple is opened full day from morning 5am to 9pm in the evening.
