A few changes are proposed to be carried out in the online property registration procedure increasing the scope of authority of the registrars.

The online registration procedure in the state of Tamil Nadu commenced on 12th February. So far, over 3.50 Lakhs online registrations have been carried out.

However, the registrars still need to scrutinize the related documents personally as the 1st phase of the online registration procedure. In case this scrutinization by registrars gets delayed, the waiting the public tends to get anxious whether their inputs have been received by the office of the registrar online or not. Thus, they tend to do the online registration again, sometimes repeating this process.

This multiple inputs of the same issue increase the number of registrations on hand, leading to confusions in the process of scrutinisation.

In order to prevent these confusions, a few changes are being proposed to be carried out in the online registration process.

The chairman of the registration department, Kumarakurubaran, explained:

‘As a part of the changes proposed, the procedure of the 1st phase of the prior scrutiny of the document submitted by the public is to be exempted. Accordingly, the required changes in the software will be carried out. As per the modified software, the registers can accept the documents submitted by the public directly without any scrutiny.

It is sufficient if the public brings all the original documents on the day of registration. This would enable expedite the registration process and save a lot of time.’
