Posted on: 26/May/2018 3:11:33 PM
The interior parts of Tamil Nadu have been receiving very good Pre-Monsoon rains since many days. Meanwhile, weather in Chennai is almost dry.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Udhagamandalam recorded heavy rain to the tune of 61 mm, Salem 34 mm, K. Paramathy 35 mm, Coimbatore 24 mm, Tirupattur 2 mm of rains. In the same time frame, Dharmapuri and Kodaikanal recorded light pre-Monsoon rains. Meanwhile, Chennai rains failed to make an appearance.

Good news is in store for the Chennaiites, as isolated light rain may make an appearance over Chennai in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, rain over the Interior parts of Tamil Nadu is likely to reduce.

A cyclonic circulation is prevailing South-Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining parts of Lakshadweep. However, the concentration of pre-Monsoon rains will be more over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining parts of Kerala. Thus, the intensity of rains is expected to reduce over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu.

Though, another feeble cyclonic circulation is over Southwest Bay of Bengal off South Tamil Nadu Coast. Therefore, the southern and interior districts of Tamil Nadu will continue to receive scattered rains. Meanwhile, the northern parts of the state such as Chennai and Puducherry are expected to witness subdued rains only.

A Low-pressure area is also expected to form over West-Central Bay of Bengal in the next couple of days. The system is likely to intensify and move in north-northeast direction towards Myanmar. Due to this rain intensity will reduce over Coastal Tamil Nadu.

Southwest Monsoon will make an onset over Kerala in the next two to three days. Thus, the intensity of rains would increase over the West Coast. However, Tamil Nadu will not get very good rains in the next few days. Chennai rains might make an appearance in these few days. In the first week of June, rains will once again increase over Tamil Nadu.
