Iyyapanthangal is an important residential place in Chennai and is now making news. It is now said that there has been many power cuts plus voltage fluctuations in Subbaiah Nagar, Ponniamman Nagar and Ashok Brindavan Nagar in Iyyapanthangal in the last few weeks. This has damaged many electronic appliances plus it also caused issues to the businesses. Recently in the neighbourhood a transformer also exploded because of overload. The repair work has been delayed and it is clear that new feeders and transformers would soon be installed.
The reality sector has been doing fabulously in the nearby Porur and this has led to many senior citizens to settle in Iyyapanthangal after their retirement. The increasing power demand due to many houses coming up in this place is one important issue. Almost every day in the last few weeks had power cuts as well as voltage fluctuations here and there are no underground power lines in this place.
A resident belonging to Subbaiah Nagar in Iyyapanthangal expressed his concerns and spoke about how due to voltage fluctuations it was difficult to use more than one appliance at a time inspite of having 3 phase power distributing system. The power cuts are notified to the mobile number of the registered individuals. Another resident spoke about how unexpectedly the power goes off and how they get routine reply that the issue is being attended. Voltage fluctuation in the morning is more difficult because in the morning everybody would be in a hurry to go to offices and schools. This was later confirmed by a resident here.
One person who runs a grinding mill in this place expressed his views on the power cuts and voltage fluctuations and spoke about how he could not afford for a generator to run his small mill and how his income had gone down due to this. He then highlighted that many people come to him between 9am and 5pm and it was tough without power supply.
According to an official from TNEB, new feeder lines have been installed here and new transformers would also be installed soon. He later spoke about how the work regarding this is still on.
