These are the various complications of getting pregnant after 40 years of age

Getting pregnant is what all women would dream in their lives and this is not easily achieved in many. There are many factors that would contribute to a woman getting pregnant. These days many women are highly educated and go to jobs like men is known. These working women are highly concerned about their careers and as a result of that they do not want to get pregnant quickly after their marriage and postpone their pregnancies. Sometimes these women become pregnant after they have crossed 40 years of age and that is not at all good for the women.

There are many complications that would arise when a women gets pregnant after she has crossed 40. These are

High BP or hypertension:

This is one important health issue that happens when a woman gets pregnant after 40 years of age. The blood pressure or BP increases due to the weight gain during the pregnancy. This BP increase is seen highly in those women who already have borderline hypertension. It is said that raised progesterone level could be a factor for this increased BP. It is important to mention that the condition could be fatal to both mother and new born if the mother has seizure.

Pre-eclampsia:

Though this condition associated with pregnancy could be present in any women but is more in those above 40 years of age. Protein in urine and high BP are the symptoms of this pre-eclampsia condition.

Gestational diabetes:

When a woman becomes pregnant gestational diabetes develops is known. After 40 years of age this condition is increased and it could result in newborns with low blood sugar. The newborns might develop issues like difficulty in breathing, seizures etc.

Placenta Previa:

It is known that in this condition the placenta is implanted at the bottom of the cervix and it covers the cervix. This result in cervix and uterus becoming scarred and the placenta might be abnormal. Normal delivery is not possible and caesarean or c-section is carried out do deliver the baby. This condition results more in women who get pregnant after 40 years of age.

Placental Abruption:

When the placenta detach from the uterine lining before birth then it is called as placental abruption. This is present in women who become pregnant after 40 years of age.

Miscarriage:

Though miscarriage could happen during pregnancies in any age but the chances are more in those women who become pregnant once they cross 40. This i is due to more abnormal eggs in older women.
