Situated in Guindy in Chennai, Anna University or AU is a prestigious educational institute and over the years AU had produced some brilliant engineers. Recently AU made news due to wrong reasons and the revaluation scam attracted the attention. Now the latest news is Anna University has made a bright start to the campus placements and as many as 250 students have got offers from top 40 companies like Microsoft, Samsung R & D, Goldman Sachs etc.
The recruiters turned out in usual numbers during the first month of campus recruitment in AU. There were also other big companies like Citi Corp, Qualcomm, Zoho etc apart from the famous Microsoft that participated in the campus recruitment. Many core industries made their presence felt in the campus recruitment and these are Samsung R& D, Caterpillar, RBS, Bharti Airtel etc. It is amazing to note that Uber India took part in the campus recruitment of AU for the first time. This Uber India offered Rs 36 lakhs per annum for a student.
More than 1500 students from as many as 4 campuses of AU have shown great interest to participate in this campus placement. As many as 400 companies would be making their presence felt in campus recruitment process. In the last year over 1900 students had registered for campus placements and out of those 1226 students had received offers.
In the year 2017, Microsoft offered Rs 22 lakhs per annum as its highest offer and in this 2018 this has increased to Rs 39 lakhs. Likewise Goldman Sachs increased its highest offer from Rs 16 lakhs to Rs 22 lakhs.
Mr. T. Thyagarajan, director, Centre for University Industry Collaboration or CUIC, AU, spoke about how more number of IT companies are taking part in the campus recruitments in this year and how the pay package has been increased in this year. He added that the internships that were offered to the students have increased.
The superb piece of information is AU is hoping to place more than 75 % of the students in 2018. As many as 140 students of third year have received internship offers from many top companies like Samsung R & D etc in just one and half months of time. Stipend amount of Rs 25000 to Rs 50000 would be given to these internship students. It is now revealed that Arcesium India has offered Rs 1 lakh as stipend and that is fantastic.
Mr. Thyagarajan later shared few things regarding internship offers for UG as well as for PG students and said UG students have received internship offers up to 2 to 3 months and PG students have offered internship offers up to 6 months of time. IT giants like TCS, CTS and Infosys are expected to provide 300 offers for the students. It must be noted that these three IT giants have participated in the recruitment drive on day one and the campus interview results of these companies are yet to be released. He explained how the business model of the IT companies has changed now from the past. IT companies are interested in the growth without adding more people. The expectations of the students have increased and colleges and students could not match the expectations. He finally spoke about how there is demand for the engineering students.
