When we are young our joints are good and we won’t have any issue in us. As we grow older, the health of our joints declines or reduces. Hence it is very important that we must take care of the joints. Many elder people suffer from osteoarthritis these days. It is worthy to note that ageing leads to loss of cartilage between the bones. The bones hurt when they rub against each other. Other symptoms of osteoarthritis apart from severe pain are swelling of the joints, stiffness of joints, restricted mobility etc. There are few tips that we must follow in our lives so that the health of our joints is superb.

Tips to maintain the joint health are

By maintaining healthy weight:

This is very important as the extra weight increase the pressure on the joints. Unwanted pressure on the joints could be avoided by maintaining healthy weight. By this the health of the joints would be superb. It is necessary to maintain healthy body mass index or BMI.

By doing regular exercises:

People having arthritis pain must do aerobic exercises. This would help in the strengthening of the muscles plus it would improve the blood supply of the body and the health of cartilage. Exercises such as swimming and walking are also highly beneficial for the health of the joints. Avoiding tough exercises is very important.

By building stronger muscles around joints:

Stronger muscles around the joints are essential as these muscles would provide support to the joints and prevent the joints from getting injured. Exercises for building our muscles are important and this could be carried out with the help of a physical trainer.

By the intake of anti-inflammatory foods:

Anti-inflammatory foods like ginger, turmeric, walnuts, tomatoes, spinach, almonds etc are superb. Intake of these foods is very important as these foods prevent joint aches.

By limiting sodium intake and consuming calcium rich foods:

It is well known that high sodium intake could lead to increase in BP and other heart diseases etc in us. Likewise more sodium intake could also lead to weak bones in us. This could result in bone fracture.  Milk and milk products are rich in calcium and it is necessary to consume these foods for the health of the bones.

By massaging the joints:

Pain in the joints is due to the joints becoming stiff. Massaging plays an important role and by massaging stiffness in the joints is reduced. Finally the joint pain is avoided.  Massaging could be carried out by using oil. Oils like peppermint oil, lavender oil, clove oil, rosemary oil etc are beneficial in relieving the joint pain.

By nourishing the muscles:

This is also one important method or way by which the health of the joints could be maintained. Here foods rich in healthy fats play a crucial role. Certain foods that are rich in healthy fats are avocado, fatty fish, nuts, cheese, chia seeds etc. These foods could reduce the swelling in the joints. Muscles get nourished by these healthy foods.

Avoid smoking:

These days both memen as well as women smoke without knowing that smoking could lead to serious effect on their bones and joints. The risk of osteoporosis and fracture of bones get increased by smoking. Hence it is important that smoking must be avoided totally for the health of the joints plus for the overall health.
