In order to perform the Pooja for the commencement of the Tamil holy month of Purattasi on Lord Ayyappa, the temple corridors at Sabarimala was opened yesterday (Sunday, 16th September).

With the presiding of the new tantiri Kandararu Rajeevaru, Melsanthi Unnikrishnan opened the temple corridors.

It rained lightly in Sabarimalai yesterday as well. However, the ardent devotees, in spite of the pouring rain, waited in the queue and had the Darshan of the Lord Ayyappa. However, as compared to the usual crowd levels for this occasion, the number of devotees was rather less.

As the waiting areas for the devotees had been removed during the recent floods, the devotees had set up temporary tents and stayed there. As electricity was not available, the devotees had carried torchlights of their own.

The temple corridors will remain open until 21st September.

The famous ‘Mandala Pooja’ is traditional to be performed during the month of November. Lakhs of devotees are expected for this occasion. Hence, a decision has been taken to expedite all the repair/reconstruction work and complete before this.
