Because of the widespread rains throughout Tamil Nadu, the demand for electric power has reduced by 2500 MW. Further, 2000 MW of power is available daily through windmill generation. So, the TANGEDCO officials have informed that there would not be an issue of the power cut.

They explained that the daily requirement of power in Tamil Nadu state is from 14500 MW to 15000 MW.

Presently, it is possible to generate up to 18000 MW through the thermal and hydropower stations. However, these power plants are not generating at full capacity. The daily generation of power is from 14000 MW to 15000 MW.

In this situation, there was a sudden stoppage of power generation from the windmills. Also, due to issues like coal shortage, maintenance/repair works, etc., the power generation reduced. Because of this, the shortage of power was experienced on 18th and 19th September.

Subsequently, the thermal power stations resumed power generation and the demand for power was met. Apart from this, the central government also agreed to supply additional coal to Tamil Nadu. In the 1st Phase, 1.60 Lakhs Meric Tons of coal has reached Tamil Nadu.

In this situation, there have been widespread rains throughout Tamil Nadu during the last few days and the demand for electric power subsequently reduced by 2500 MW. Further, as the wind power had increased in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, the wind power generation has resumed.

Presently, windmill power generation is 2000 MW per day. So, this would reduce the prospects of any power cuts.
