Saraswathi Pooja 2018 timings and significance

This year, Saraswathi Pooja or Ayudha Pooja is to fall on 18th October 2018 which is tomorrow, the Thursday.
Usually, Ayudha Pooja and Saraswathi Pooja are celebrated on the day of Maha Navami that is celebrated during Navarathri. And Navarathri this year falls between 10th and 18th of October. Vijayadhasami is observed on 19th of October, Friday.
Saraswathi Pooja
On the day of Saraswathi Pooja, we worship the goddess Saraswathi who is the goddess of knowledge. People worship by placing all their books, musical instruments, equipment and tools and gadgets like mobile, computer, vehicles, etc.
There will be exclusive Homam or abhishegam or Pooja being carried out on this day. And special Aarthi are taken. Purnahuti of Chandi Homam is usually performed.
The good time for Saraswathi Pooja tomorrow, according to Tamil calendar is between 10.45 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. in the morning , and 12.15 pm to 01.15 pm in the noon, or 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm in the evening.
Golu celebrations
In south India, Golu is celebrated during these 9 days. During these days, we celebrate with different kinds of colorful dolls including gods and goddess. There are various themes in Golu that we celebrate. It is often called as Golu or Kolu or Bommai Golu. People invite relations and neighbors and prepare special dishes and offer the lord and all guests.
Dishes including Sundal using Channa, Karamani, Pasiparuppu, Groundnut or Kadalai Paruppu, etc., Appam, poori, puttu, halwa, etc. are prepared during these days.
