The state government of Tamil Nadu has decided to impose a penalty of 50% of the due amount for those who have failed to apply for the regularisation of the purchase of unapproved plots.
This regularization system was announced on 4th May 2017 for the purchase of unapproved plots made before 20th October 2016.
The last date for application for regularization of unapproved plots as above expired on 3rd November. Subsequently, the state government gave an extension of time for another 5 days. The last day was 16th November.
In this situation, a review meeting was conducted regarding the new decision for those who have failed to avail the above regularisation by the Chief Secretary of the Housing Development and Urban Growth Department, Krishnan.
A decision was taken during this meeting for the owners who failed to regularize their purchase of unapproved plots. A higher official of the related government department explained in this regard that There are still a considerable number of purchase of unapproved plots which have not bee regularised. So, considering the delay, permission would be given to applying online under the pretext of delay. However, a penalty of 50% of the due amount has also to be paid for this delay.
As per this, for tho who apply after 3rd November till the next 6 months, 10% penalty would be imposed. For a period of delay over 1 year, the penalty would be 25%. For the delay exceeding more than a year, the penalty would be 50%.
The Department of Housing Development and Urban Growth has been instructed accordingly to carry out the necessary corrections. For the areas under the domain of village and small city administrations, the penalty is fixed at Rs. 15 per sq. ft. For city administration domain, the penalty would be Rs. 30 per sq. ft. For the Metro and major city domains, the penalty would be Rs, 50 maximum per sq ft.
Once the approval is obtained from the state government, this would be implemented.
