In Perungudi in Chennai, a new hospital inaugurated now

Situated about 10kms from Adyar, Perungudi in the city of Chennai is a superb residential area and it has now become cynosure of many eyes. The reason is a new 200 bedded hospital was inaugurated in Perungudi in Chennai on Monday, 3rd December. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu is the vice president of India and he inaugurated this GEM super speciality hospital that would be dedicated to Gastroenterology and Laparoscopy. On this hospital inauguration function there were also other important persons like chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, deputy chief minister of TN, Mr. O. Paneerselvam and hospital chairman, Dr. Palanivelu etc.

The vice president Mr. Venkaiah Naidu later spoke about how as per the WHO norm of one doctor per 1000 population there is now one doctor per 1700 population in India. He later revealed about high level committee of erstwhile planning commission that has recommended setting up of 187 more medical colleges by the year 2022 so that a doctor per 1000 population would be reached.

The important point is the inadequate number of physicians present is causing many worries for the people. It must be noted that in other developed countries the number of physicians available is 20 per 10,000 population but in India it is just six. This was as per a statement from Press information Bureau. The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy hinted that hospitals with latest equipments at a cost of Rs 634 crores would be introduced. The funding for the hospitals would be by Japan international Cooperation Agency.
