The latest news is Chennai city and its suburbs would receive light to moderate rains or thunder showers due to the trough of low pressure that has edged closer to the coast. Around 6th of December 2018, there would be a low pressure area over equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. This was forecasted by the meteorological department. It is said that the due to the impact created by the low pressure, Chennai city would receive some rains when the low pressure area moves closer or northwards along the coast. It is known that Chennai city received light rains between Monday night and Tuesday early morning.
The southern suburbs of Chennai received heavy rains but core places of the city received light to moderate rains. The important piece of information revealed by the meteorological department is the Chennai city received a cumulative rainfall of 6.5mm in the last 24 hours. From Monday evening till 8:30 am on Tuesday, Nungambakkam recorded 7mm rains and Meenambakkam recorded 44.5mm rains. At around 5:30 pm on Monday the rains began and peaked between 1:30 am and 3:30 am and touched 6mm. For the next 48 hours, there would be light to moderate rains or thunder showers and this has been forecasted by the meteorological department. It is known that on regular normal days the maximum temperature would be 30 degree Celsius and above. The maximum temperature was around 26.9 degree Celsius on Tuesday. The highest temperature that was recorded on Tuesday was 30 degree Celsius.
