The central government has planned to ban the construction of houses using bricks. The central government is of the view that the bricks used for the construction, manufactured from clay and red-sand is harmful to the environment causing pollution.
Accordingly, the central government has been initiating activities to find a new substitute material which will not cause any pollution.
The central government has accordingly ordered the Public Works Department. It has also asked the ministry of Urban Development o explore, review and help a decision on banning the use of bricks for building construction and the positive and negative features of introducing a ban on bricks.

The central public works department undertakes the responsibility to design the buildings to be constructed by the government-owned construction, autonomous central government concerns and organizations. A senior official from this department explained that there are latest technologies available to find a substitute for bricks using al waste materials which would not cause pollution. This can be used for the future constructions while protecting the environment.
The central ministry had ordered to explore the possibilities as above and also whether a decision can be taken to ban the usage of bricks for building construction.
