Urjit Patel, who was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, submitted his resignation all of a sudden. Subsequently, the central government has appointed Shaktikanta Das as the new Governor of RBI on Tuesday (11th December).
Shaktikanta Das had earlier performed as IAS officer in the Tamil Nadu Section. Later, he was the Secretary of the Central Department of Economic Affairs. He retired during May 2017.
As BJP formed the government with the NDA, Shaktikanta Das was appointed in the Central Ministry of Finance. He was the responsibility of the important section of revenue. Later, he was transferred to the Central Department of External Affairs.
In this situation, Shaktikanta Das has now been appointed by the central government as the 25th Governor od the Reserve Bank of India. Subsequently, Shaktikanta Das assumed office as the Governor of RBI today (Wednesday, 12th December) morning.
