As the bank employees have proposed to go on strike today (Friday, 21st December), a situation has arisen where the banks would remain closed for 5 successive days.
Protesting on insisting action on their various demands such as salary increase, cancellation of the proposal to merge 3 banks(Dena Bank, Vijaya Bank, and Bank of Baroda), etc., the All India Bank Employees Unions are to go on strike for 2 days starting today (21st December). This has led to a situation when the banks may not function for 5 successive days from today.
It is a deemed bank working day today (Friday, 21st December). However, tomorrow (4th Saturday of the month) and the next day being a Sunday, there would be 2 more holidays.
Tuesday, 25th December, is Christmas Holiday. Monday will be a working day. So, with the bank employees proposing to go on strike on 21st and 24th December (today – Friday and 24th – Monday), a situation has arisen when the banks may not function for 5 successive days.
