UIDAI (The Unique Identification Authority of India) has informed that there is an increase in the usage of Aadhar cards by the public. Around 3 Crore citizens use the Aadhar card daily for various purposes.
The Aadhar card system was introduced just in order to ensure that all the welfare schemes offered by the central and state governments reach only the eligible people. The Aadhar cards were designed incorporating the personal identity data used by the central/state governments, fingerprints, and the pupil of the eyes. The responsibility of making these Aadhar cards and distribution is undertaken by UIDAI.
Though there have been protests and objections from the opposition parties to implement the Aadhar card plan, the central government is quite keen and certain about the implementation of Aadhar cards.
As a result of the activities undertaken as above, the Central Railway Minister Piyush Goyal informed that over 3.5 Crores fake gas connections and 1.60 Crore family ration cards have been identified and removed so far.
In an analytical report issued by the World Bank, it is mentioned that the central government can save about Rs. 77000 Crores per year by implementing the welfare schemes with the use of Aadhar cards. Further, with this saving, 3 other recently announced public welfare schemes such as ‘Ayushman Bharath’ (insurance coverage for the economically poor and downtrodden citizens in the country) can be taken up for implementation/
Increasing popular awareness, enthusiasm, and appreciation
Since the inception of the Aadhar card concept, there has been a substantial increase in public awareness, enthusiasm, and appreciation among the public to avail the welfare schemes through Aadhar cards. Around 3 Crores citizens use Aadhar cards every day to vail welfare schemes.
The officials from UIDAI shared in this regard:
‘So far, 123.17 Crores citizens have been issued Aadhar cards/numbers. Out of this, around 25.63 Crores citizens have taken up corrections of the details in the Aadhar cards.
So far, Aadhar cards have been availed 2671 Crores times for various purposes such as getting subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder connection, buying grocery items using the family card, buying SIM cards for mobile phones, making financial transactions, and drawing the monthly pension.
3 Crores citizens use Aadhar cards every day to avail all the welfare services. The server for this entirely computerized operations has a high capacity to cope up the usage of Aadhar cards by 10 Crores citizens every day.
Digital system for data collection/submission
Apart from the above impressive data regarding Aadhar cards usage, the public has displayed keen enthusiasm in submitting their personal details for the ‘KYC’ (Know Your Customer) system. So far, KYC forms with the impression of fingerprints through Aadhar cards have been submitted and processed at 696 crores locations.’
In this regard, while referring this development to a citizen who bought a new SIM card, he shared, ‘Earlier, we needed to fill up new forms for this. Also, we had to attach proofs of facial identity as well proof of address. Photos need to be affixed (spending m money for the same). However, after the advent of Aadhar cards, it is just enough to provide the fingerprint. The time, money, and energy spent of taking photographs and copies of proofs/certificates are saved!’
