In good news for commuters, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that mini buses will ply in areas that cannot run regular buses. The mini buses will be connected to the railway stations and bus stations around the city.
The first phase of this initiative will have 100 mini buses plying. The number will increase according to the demand thereof. The announcement to submit tenders for the chassis of the new models was made and the government received competitive quotes from Leyland and Tata Motors. The purchase order has been bagged by Tata Motors, which gave the lowest quotation.
A senior of official from MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) said that the buses are expected to hit the road in May of this year.
