Aviation Turbine Fuel rates go up

Get ready to pay extra for air fares soon. In March this year, it is likely that the Aviation Turbine Fuel or ATF, or jet fuel is to see a price hike by 10%. This news comes amidst cancellation of flights by Jet Airways and IndiGo for different reasons each. According to airline officials, the combined effect of these will bring down the overall seat supply which will cause hike in fares so as to absorb high cost.

An industry veteran says ATF rates are 10% increased with effect from March 2019. There is one more 10% hike in ATF prices that has come to effect from this midnight.

In domestic flights, A kilo-litre of ATF at Delhi and Mumbai will cost about Rs 58,060.97 and Rs 58,017.33 respectively. With that the declining trend since the November last year where the rates were of the range Rs 76,378.80 and Rs 76.013.2 in Delhi and Mumbai have come to an end.

In the past month, Jet has almost grounded about 13 aircrafts because of default to lessors. A few were not flying and there were snags with the others. There were flight cancellation with IndiGo as well until April because of shortage of pilots.
