As 10 years are getting completed when the Rs. 10 coins being introduced in 2009, the central government has decided to issue new Rs. 20 coins.
The central department of finance has informed that this new coin would be of a unique shape, never used so far! It will have 12 sides.
The breadth of the coin is 27 mm. Just like the Rs. 10 coins, this Rs. 20 coin will also have 2 metallic shades with the use of 2 metals, the outer surface being 67% copper, 15% zinc, and 20% Nickel. The inside of the Rs. 20 coin will contain 75% copper, 20% Zinc, and 5% Nickel.
However, it will not be like the Rs. 10 coins which had teeth on the rim. The weight of the coin is 8.54 grams.
The coin will have Ashoka Chakra and the lion face and the words ‘Satyameva Jayate’ below that. The left side will have the word `Bharath’ in Hindi. The right side will have the word ‘India’ in English.
The figure of grain will feature on the coin. As the coins have a longer life than the currency notes, the Reserve Bank of India has informed that coins are also being introduced.
After the Rs. 10 coins were introduced, there were 13 changed in design in the last 10 years! Even as the changes were made, there was confusion among the traders that they might be fakes and stopped using them!
