New family cards for the love-marriage couples - TN Govt Order

The state government of Tamil Nadu has ordered the details that the couples who got love-married about removing their respective names from their family cards.

The order released by food distribution and consumer safety department mentions:

‘Currently, electronic smart family ration cards are being issued in Tamil Nadu on the basis of Aadhar cards. In order to facilitate the couples who get love-married to get new electronic smart family ration cards, when the parents of the concerned put up a request to remove the names of the couple, some parents refuse to request for removal. However, the department has received requests that they should ask the parents and seek the removal of the concerned names.

When getting married, the minimum age of the bride should be 18 and the bridegroom should be 21. There is no compulsion that they should get the consent of the parents. So, the couples have the right to seek the removal of their names from their old family card.

On this basis, the love-married couple can register the request to remove their names from the existing family cards on Rs. 100 stamped bond paper in the presence of authorized registrar ad the removal carried out.

Further, they have to give a promise or undertaking that they would be responsible for any related legal activities/development and attach this along with the name-removal application. The marriage registration certificate is the only authorized legal proof for the marriage.

So, the love-marriage couple, in order to get their names removed from the existing family cards should attach the marriage registration certificate along with the application for the new family card as per the rules and regulations and submit to the concerned food-department distribution official.
