How to link Aadhar card with PAN card online?

Have you got your Aadhar card linked with PAN card? If this is not done, you need to rush up as you have just 2 days. The last date to do the linking is 31st March 2019. According to the norms fixed by the Income Tax Department, it is compulsory for one to get their PAN card linked with Aadhar so as to make Income Tax Return filing pertaining to 2019-20 financial year.

In case you fail to do the linking by 31st March, chances are that your PAN number might undergo deactivation. Experts however stand divided in this regard. There is no proper clarity as to what would happen in case of non-linking of PAN card and Aadhar card within the preset deadline.

There were many rounds of changes in deadline to do the linking. Earlier, the deadline to link was fixed at 30th June 2018 and then it was shifted to 31st March 2019. The Supreme Court also stands by Section 139AA that mandates linking of Aadhar card and PAN card numbers.

Latest notification from the IT department reminds the last date for linking as 20th March.

What is the procedure to link Aadhar card and PAN number online?

To do the linking, first, click on to the official IT department website or UTIITSL or NSDL. Click on ‘Linking Aadhar’ and this will redirect you to another link where you can link the PAN card and Aadhar card.

Go on and confirm your details including name, gender, DOB and other essential details present on your Aadhar card. Feed your Aadhar number and the Captcha code. Finally click on ‘Link Aadhar’. Once this is done right, you will get a message saying your linking is successfully completed.

Method to link your Aadhar card with PAN card through SMS

Take your mobile phone and type as UIDPAN followed by the 12 digit Aadhar card followed by the 10 digit PAN card number. This should look like this

UIDPAN<Aadhar number><PAN number>

And this message should be sent as SMS to 567678 or 56161. Make sure to send the SMS from the mobile number that is registered with Aadhar card. Once this is done, you will receive an OTP to your registered mobile number. And the process will get completed. After doing this, click on e-filing website of Income Tax Department which is www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. Here you can verify whether the linking is done right.
