One lakh compensation to be paid by builder

The consumer court in Chennai has ordered contractor S. Selvam of Selvindiran Building to pay Rs. 1 lakh as compensation for mental agony caused by delay of completion of a house in Kodaingayur.
The builder was approached by G. Chandrasekaran to build a house and was paid Rs. 14 lakhs as full payment. Selvam did not keep his end of the bargain – delivering in six months – despite the latter’s constant following up. This led to Chandrasekaran filing a criminal complaint.
The court decided, ‘The forum considers that the objection, as raised by the opposite party (contractor), is not sustainable. (The court) orders him (Selvam) to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation and Rs 50,000 for the deficiency of service and Rs 10,000 towards cost of complaint to Chandrasekaran.’
