The Chennai Corporation will take steps to make life for commuters in and around Koyambedu’s Moffusil Bus Terminus better. The terminus is Asia’s largest and sees traffic from the neighbouring states and districts. Congestion has been a concern for the past few years and efforts to open alternate terminuses have hit dead ends. The construction of the Metro Rail has added to the chaos in the area.
As the Metro Rail station for Koyambedu will be at the site of the terminus, facilities to make bus commuters take the train and train commuters take the bus will be put in place. A proposal to build a connecting bridge between the terminus and the station is underway.
Moreover, what are now separate areas for state run buses and omni buses will become one. The 6.7 acre land behind the bus station will be taken up for the purpose. The move will help the state run 450 extra buses on festival and special days.
