Prospects for cyclone formation over the Arabian Sea

There are prospects of depression zone formed over the southeast Arabian Sea intensifying into a cyclone today (Tuesday, 11th June). However, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has warned that there are no prospects of rain in Tamil Nadu due to this cyclone and the fishermen in the Arabian Sea areas must not venture into the sea.

The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Puviyarasan shared in this regard: ‘The low –pressure zone which formed over the southeast Arabian Sea and the central-east Arabian Sea has transformed into a deep depression zone. This may drift towards the northwest and may transform into a cyclone on Tuesday, 11th June (today). However, there are no prospects of rain in Tamil Nadu due to this!  The fishermen must venture into the sea until 12th June (Wednesday).

Hot winds may blow across in the 12 districts of Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Thiruvallur, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Perambalaur, and Villupuram.’

On Monday, 10th June, the temperatures recorded at various places in Degrees Fahrenheit: A maximum of 109 at Tiruthani in Thiruvallur district, Chennai -106, Vellore – 103, Cuddalore – 102, Puducherry – 101, Parangippettai and Trichy – 100.

Maximum rainfall of 70 mm was recorded on Monday (10th June) at Kuzhitthurai, Kanyakumari district. Others – Iraniyal – 50 mm, Thakkalai, Erode district – Kodumudi – 40 mm, Kanyakumari Pechippaarai – Kualchal – 30 mm.
